Anyway for gamers?

Post by RolandHazoto »

I just got my MJ today and I like it but I have tried everything suggested to keep it from stealing focus from my full screen games.
MagicBlock still has it switch to desktop when the phone rings. Same with MagicJack Manager. And 4t Tray minimizer was useless...

I just wanna be able to play my games and not be forced to switch to the desktop when the phone rings! But I do need to be able to access the softphone, as I am not using a housephone, but instead, my PC Headset. So I suspect using it as a service will not work for me...

I don't mind it ringing when I have an incoming call, (I kinda need it to) I just don't want it focus stealing... Any thoughts?

You don't want it to popup for even the briefest moment, since your
games are running full screen. I'm not sure, but a solution might be
for you to follow one of the two "sticky" procedures for running MJ as
a service. If necessary you could try removing "interaction with
the desktop" from the Services control panel.

My MagicBeans® software would perhaps not be quick enough to
prevent MJ from stealing focus just that bit it takes to bring your game
out of full-screen, BUT...

If you try MagicBeans® by setting "Extended Settings" to "Hide NOW,"
"Hide INCOMING," "Minimize NOW," "Minimize INCOMING" and set
Transparency to 0 (zero), it may possibly work for you.
Check out the thread and contact me if you want to beta test it...
http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... t5919.html

Good luck either way

PS - If MagicBeans® doesn't work for you, let me know and I can absolutely
(well, 99% sure) fix it so it *will* work
(ie: you've given me another feature idea   :D )

I also game with my MJ computer and the app popping up drove me crazy but someone created this (see forum above keep app from popping up) and it works great! It's not fancy but it gets the job done. Good luck.

Nope... Game still minimized... And actually that program worked the worst cuz MJ still popped up, the others at least keep MJ out of view...

Is the game really "minimized?" Or, is it switching from fullscreen to "maximized?" (With a title bar, controls on the top right to close, minimize, etc?).

When I run a fullscreen application and a call comes in, it switches to *maximized*. Not desirable. But, not as bad as *minimized.*

If you're really getting minimized, I think it's the game. Not MJ.

Another option & update on MB

I'm working on it, Roland (all day :) ) . BTW, are you able to put the
games you're talking about in a Maximized Window state (vs. Full Screen)
if you want to?

Also, one other certain way is to use a Virtual Machine software.
Most (eg: VMWare, MS, etc) have free download versions. VMWare
is best, from my experience. You could run your game in a virtual
machine which would not be affected by MJ running on the
non-virtual machine. It gives a lot of advantages, but if an action
game, you'll need a fast machine to run on...
Just another possibility.

Windowed probably, maximized windowed, I don't believe so, and I'm pushing this laptop to it's limits as is with some of these games so a VM would probably all but kill it...
A lot of my games I usually have to turn the settings all the way down and then I run em fullscreen in the lowest resolution to get the most speed I can (this laptop is not meant for gaming but it's all I can manage till I get caught up on bills)
Like I said to you before vdot, the 2 important ones are Left 4 Dead and the Dreamcast emulator cuz L4D is online so I really don't need that losing focus and if the DC Emu loses focus it is not recoverable...

What's MJ proxy?
I'm lookin around and all I'm findin is how to use MJ with a proxy, which not only is pointless but it would slowdown my internet connection 95% of the time (I've used proxies for rapidshare and a few other things, but only when necessary)

haha, man the proxy runs on your local box allowing one to comply with mj servers... just grab it from the "certificate is a joke" thread run it and use an app like bol sipphone to connect. There will be virtually no degradation in your up/downstream on the local system, because the proxy run LOCAL ;)

Hmm Might work... but from what I was reading isn't the sip info hard to acquire now?
If I can get a half decent guide I can figure it out, if it is in-fact still possible...
Much like PS2 soft-modding, I can figure it out with the right research...
And of course I would need a recomendation for a good softphone app. I do like MJ's, so something along it's lines (or with more features) would be nice...

stroth's utility still works and so does pmdump, one just might have to account for timing to gain creds... I checked mine last week to double take

bol sippone
xlite
etc

Alright, I have decided to go with xlite, but I need a configuration guide for setting up the SIP account...
I take it proxyusername and proxypassword go in the username and password fields but what other info do I need to make sure goes into xlite?
EDIT: Found a guide here but xlite gives me error 503 (Service Unavailable)
EDIT2: Now the stroth's utility can't even get my sip data... I was gonna double check it to the first acquisition...

Alright, I sorta got xlite working after fiddling with the SIP account settings for some time but now people can call me and I can hear them but they can not hear me... Any idea what the problem maybe?
EDIT: Only on incoming, if I call them, they can hear me fine...
EDIT2: Xlite is starting to prove unreliable... Sometimes it says errors such as "Gone" or "Request Timed Out"
EDIT3: On incoming calls my voice echoes into my own ears but the ones on the other end cannot hear me...

Like which one?
I can't find others...
Although I gotta say, it's a shame cuz I fell in love with x-lite's features... The missed call notification thing, and the DND button... And I tested it and it does not steal focus at all... It just rings in the background...
EDIT: Giving eyebeam a shot...
EDIT2: Eyebeam had the exact same results... It almost seems like a codec issue but I wouldn't know... I would like a softphone with the same features that xlite provides...

Solved the issues! I had to disable all the codecs except G711 aLaw!
Does anyone know of any other possible issues in using eyebeam or xlite?
Also does anyone know how to make the voicemail notification work?
EDIT: Still getting the occasional "Gone" message when x-lite initializes, a fix for that would be nice... For the time being I'll only use x-lite when I am playing games...Once I am certain it will not have issues I will switch over to it completely. That is unless someone does finally keep MJ from stealing focus (although I really like a few of x-lite's features)

Hi Roland,
I posted a new version of MagicBeans® (for beta-testers) which has two hotkeys built in:
..... #1 - <ctrl> + "]" (ie: <ctrl-]> )
..... #2 - <ctrl> + <win> + "]" (ie: <ctrl-win-]> )

#1 Sets the currently-focused window to "always on top"
#2 Does the same, Plus maximizes the client area of the window to desktop dimensions
(if the App will allow the entire window to be resized beyond desktop size)

This is not a fix for your fullscreen-only game(s) coming out of fullscreen,
but if the game will run in a window, it *may* effectively be like running in
fullscreen (using #2)

BTW, the hotkeys are toggle functions, so they will alternately 'set-on/set-off' the function.

(Also should have the installer issue fixed...)

Let me know if it works for you, or call me if you have any Q's or Problems.

Alright Guys,
I made some efforts and did a little work, but I need some input! I have started a new thread on the matter. The thread is located here:
http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/i-ne ... t7019.html

Until I have enough info I am at somewhat of a standstill...

as for MagicBeans vdot, I will be testing it out sometime, probably tomorrow or later tonight depending on how I feel.

Please read over that transcript guys and tell me what you's think!

The best solution was do not disturb button, but for some reason they took that away, now I just close out the MJ App I mostly game at night when no one should be calling anyway.

Good luck tho!
