I called MJ and they said if you need to replace your dongle you have to either get a replacement (about $30 with shipping/taxes/whatever else they can dream up) or buy a new one for $39 ($46 with shipping) that comes with a year of service (but that will have a new number).

Then I asked about buying a used one. One operator said it can't be done. I mentioned there are thousands being sold every year online so how are they being used? She didn't know. What a surprise.

Another operator said one can take over an account and there is no charge for this. (I nearly fainted with surprise.) But you can't use that dongle on your account because there can be only be one account per dongle. Sounds like they are profiting from the dongle otherwise why wouldn't they offer an app for the computer so it doesn't have to be used? Think of all the laptop users that would love to use it without that think sticking out of the side. This operator also basically kaboshed the idea of getting a used one to replace a broken one.

So would you experienced MJ veterans agree with that info?

For as long as I remember, MJ has not permitted an expired dongle to be transfered to another user. Gotta make some money somehow. If you buy a new one, you should be able to port your previous number to the new dongle.
