Call me crazy, but I like the old corded phone in a cradle like the EF Johnson phone I had in the 80s. I heard the 80s were coming back so I wanted to try a new project. Gonna get a car PC setup, and use a Linksys wireless router loaded with DD-WRT and an external high gain antenna. Using the AUTO AP script in the firmaware, going to attempt a setup where when I pull over or even stuck in stopped traffic, allow my router to connect to an open router. Thus allowing me to make calls on my MJ corded phone. I would rather go this route than pulling out my laptop all the time. Making my non "in network" Verizon calls during lunchtime on MJ would now allow me to possibly change my cell phone plan to something cheaper. If anyone has done this with success, let me know. |

Hello fallbrook, yes this will work but it is very dependent on your setup/equipment and it will not be very reliable due to a various amount of issues which I will list.
1.How many open wi-fi connections available
2.Distance(signal strenght)
3.Noise/interference
Try this link for great information on what you are trying to do http://linksysco.com/box.php I have been playing with wi-fi for about 5 years and discovered that it is very tricky to get this setup working solid/consistent,people have made this work with vonage, also see this link.
