How to reinstall or hack the passwords on a WYSE WT9235LE

Post by skassama »

Hi,

I just bought two wyse thin clients from ebay. One of them logs on to a user with limited resources and the other one comes up with the user id and password pop up.

Is there any way to hack or reinstall the XPe ?

If so please advise how to do it. I am very new to this and would appreciate all the help.

My goal is to run mj on it

Thanks

Most of the XP password reset tools will work with XPe as well. HERE is one of many that I have used.

BTW - If you need to get into the BIOS on the WYSE units, the password is "Fireport" (case sensitive without the quotes).

EDIT - Nevermind about the BIOS, I forgot that model doesn't have a standard PC BIOS, and it's only a 266Mhz CPU and 192MB Flash. Essentially it is the same as a Compaq T20 (same motherboard). It will take alot of work to get it to work with mJ. Too much work for even me to tackle, but I hear it can be done. Happy hacking!!!

By default the terminal is set to auto-login. You need to log off while holding down the shift key. This will bring up the login dialog. The factory defaults, if they have not been changed, are Administrator for both user and password. They are case sensitive.

You can find a copy of the XPe user manual at:
http://wyse.vecmar.com/winterm/pdf/9440-883731-01-A.pdf

The firmware is reloaded with a utility called netxfer available from the Wyse web site - see below. The procedure involves powering up the unit while pressing or pulsing the "p" key.

Additional info on these units may be found at:

http://open-evot20.sourceforge.net - a mailing list for running linux on these machines. Check out the message archives.

http://www.freewysemonkeys.com/ - wyse thin client info

http://wyse.com/serviceandsupport/support/downloads.asp - select your model from the retired menu.

You may want to check the recent thread entitled "problems with evo t20". It appears that MJ may no longer install on XPe SP1. :-(
