I have recently purchased a DEL mini Atom for the purposes of replacing my landline with MagicJack. My current cordless telephone doesnt handle the Caller ID properly, so I have ordered one of the Panasonic models that supposedly will break dial tone and will work well with MagicJack and Caller ID with name. They dont seem to have any numbers in my area code, so I have an out-of-area-code MagicJack phone number. I plan to keep my home telephone number by using a phone number bank to simply call-forward my home phone number to my MagicJack number. Thatll run me about ten bucks a month.
Heres my problem: I have been a MAC person ever since I went to school for Graphic Design. I have not really touched a PC in at least eight years. What I want to do is spoof the Caller ID number and name on outgoing calls to reflect my normal phone number, not the MagicJack number. I started reading about making MagicJack a service on this PC. In spite of my lack of current PC skills, I think I could cook book it enough to complete this task, but just barely. Beyond that, I am at a loss as to how to change my outgoing Caller ID. Can anyone point me in the right direction for CURRENT information on how to accomplish this spoof? Do I really need to make it a service if MagicJack is all I intend to do with this PC? Any help will be appreciated. |

Caller ID spoofing is no longer possible with the magicJack.

You do not need to run the magicJack as a service. People like running the magicJack as a service because among other reasons, you do not get the annoying softphone popups. |

Drat! Ok, then. How can I find out if/when I can use my current home phone number as my MagicJack number? |

Is there any way that I can get my MagicJack caller ID name to be what I want it to be (my name)? It usually reads "toll free call," right? I never answer "toll free calls" because they are usually marketing calls. |

Please read through at least some of the active threads in this forum before posting once again your wishes for a feature that is clearly documented as not being available.
By reading before posting you would have learned already that MJ, being at the very bottom of the price vs. features curve of VoIP services, does not have Calling Name ID service or Calling Number ID spoofing available. In addition, you would also have known hours ago the reasons behind this.
The best way to get answers to your specific problems is to post your specific symptoms at the bottom of an on-topic thread. In this manner, everyone reading your contribution can know that you already understand the history of the topic and does not have to remind you of it.
For example, rather than joining one of the threads that talks about how to gain better Caller ID performance, and likely learning an answer that could have saved you the cost of buying a new telephone, you post here that your telephone "doesn't handle the Caller ID properly." That comment lacks any symptomatic information that could allow any member to help you solve your problem. If you had truly wanted to solve the problem you would have specified the manner in which the phone does not function properly and the steps you have tried so far in your efforts to solve your problem.
It's not too late. The more information you provide, especially when posted in the proper topical thread, the better your chances are of solving your problem. Welcome aboard. |
