|
|
Shoot, I know I saw it here a few day's ago but I am looking for numbers to test my callerid. Was using the Seattle proxy but seems that it isn't working. However Nashville did work before I switched to Seattle. Also does the proxy only effect the callerid or does it effect where the calls are routed as well? |

True, but you usually can't block or spoof caller ID on toll-free numbers, so you need a non-toll-free number for such testing. 712-580-9999 will speak caller ID with minimal preamble. |

I don't get it.. Did I misunderstand something? I dialed the test number (254) 634-3145 and I got Time Warner Cable in Texas. Whats that all about? |

Stay on the line a little longer it will tell you what number you are calling from. |

It's interesting to me that if you call the MCI number (1-800-444-3333, or 1-800-444-4444), it'll tell me that I'm calling from 585-698-1375.
Um, that's not my number...
And, if I call it? I've "reached a number that is no longer in service."
I get the same number from two different MagicJacks.
So, what is this Verizon Wireless cell number in Rochester, NY, and why is MJ sending out an ANI with it? |

So, what is this Verizon Wireless cell number in Rochester, NY, and why is MJ sending out an ANI with it? | The 585 number is actually owned by Choice One, even though most of 585-698 belongs to Verizon. See http://www.telcodata.us/telcodata/telco?npa=585&exchange=698 . MJ recently switched to Choice One for handling toll-free calls, probably mostly for financial reasons. (When you call a toll-free number, the called party pays a per-minute charge. A portion of that goes to the originating carrier. In turn, they pay a percentage to customers such as MJ who send lots of minutes their way. Choice One is more generous than most.) It's also mostly good for the end user -- quality and reliability are excellent, and they have no issues with DTMF, lack of answer supervision, etc. Unfortunately, they insist on sending their own ANI with the call (the exact number is different for each customer), so you may have issues if the callee, e.g. MCI, uses ANI rather than caller-ID to identify you.
If you want to test caller-ID on toll-free, call 866-692-6447. Although this number spells 866-MY-ANI-IS, and the announcement says "your ANI is ...", it actually plays your caller ID! Go figure.
To test ANI on toll-free, call 800-437-7950. |

don't use the telco 800 numbers such as suggested here. They use the ANI not the CID number |
