|
|
My magicjack stopped working on my macbook pro (2.33ghz) around the time I updated to 10.5.7.
When I plug it in a window pops up with a folder instead of the magicjack icon. The folder has a red line on it and when I select get info from the finder it says no access.
The magicjack actually works fine on my hackintosh with 10.5.7 installed.
So I contacted support and downloaded the update.dmg
The update doesn't actually update my magicjack, but runs from the dmg image and makes the magicjack work. I would like to copy the file from the update.dmg to the magicjack, but I only have read permissions
Is there a way to change permissions?
Thanks in advance. |

I've never seen this problem before...
Can you try the update with your hackintosh? Are things writeable there?
If not, are you running boot camp, or Fusion or Parallels? Try doing the same in Windows using the upgrade.exe found on the magicjack.com site under support.
Let us know how it goes. Perhaps you've had your mJ long enough now, and you've reached that "magic" limited number of writes of a USB device... |

I've tried running the update on my hack.
No write access there.
I've run the update from windows.
I forgot to mention I get this error in console on both the hack and macbook pro:
6/1/09 7:35:32 PM kernel SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x05, ASC = 0x20, ASCQ = 0x00 |

Ugh. Kinda sounds like you're hosed, man. Might be time for a new device. How old is yours? |

Yeah.
It's kinda a bummer, just got it in february. I've hardly used it.
I guess I'll try to get a replacement.
Thanks. |

The upgrade broke my two (2) units used on MacbookPro's.
Three (3) nights in their support chat, probably 7+ hrs and still no resolution.
It works ok in VMware Fusion on the same MacbookPro's (Windows) but gives the dreaded ( error 401 ) when running 10.5.7

I have encountered a similar problem that began somewhere during 10.5.6 or 10.5.7 updates. The "start magicjack" app won't run. I downloaded and ran the magicjack upgrade and the softphone window appeared and the phone worked. However, if I unplugged the USB hardware and plugged it back in I again found I can't run the "Start magicjack" app unless I again run the upgrade.
I found a workaround however. There is an invisible folder. ~/.magjcjack/softphone that has the magicjack app in it . If I place this magicjack app in my Dock after the upgrade, plug in the USB dongle and then run the magicjack app from the Dock then the softphone and real phone work properly. It appears that it is the "Start magicjack" app that is the problem for me, not the actual magicjack application.
Here's what I did.
1. Plug in the USB dongle.
2. Download and run the upgrade.
3. Find the hidden application by opening the Go menu in finder, choosing "Go to Folder" and typing "~/.magicJack/softphone" and clicking the "Go" button.
4. Drag the "magicjack" application to your Dock.
5. Run the "magicjack" application.
Subsequently when I plug in the USB dongle I just run the app from the Dock and it works.
I'm not sure if this addresses others' problems, but it fixed the problems I was having on my Intel iMacs at work and at home running OS X 10.5.7. |

Sounds like a great solution. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder why the application is getting hosed? I haven't seen this on my various machines, also running 10.5.7.
As far as the mJ app showing up as a folder, well, any "application" on a Mac is actually a folder. For proof, Cmd-click on any app and "Show Package Contents". You can see all kinds of things in there. Or, upload an app to any FTP site, and suddenly you have a folder full of stuff... |
