I have one of the early Magic Jacks. I have the "biscuit" that fixes the caller ID issue. Basically, I want to use MJ with Phonetray Free, which it did, just displaying the number that called. I wanted to see the name of the caller too. I got Magicfeatures software and ran it (this was the free trial version). When it worked (all of twice) I didn't get the actual name of the caller-- just the city and state (so even when it worked the software was useless to me). Then, after that, I got nothing but N/As, and not even a number display..

I uninstalled Magicfeatures, rebooted-- and still nothing but N/A. I uninstalled Magic Jack (using the uninstall software), rebooted, reinstalled it-- and still N/A.

I moved the Magic Jack to another USB port. Same result.

To confirm everything, I took the Magic Jack to another computer. It worked fine, displaying the caller number in Phonetray Free. As soon as I installed Magicfeatures-- again, nothing but N/A, with no numbers displayed.

I tried the "Fix CID" feature in Phonetray Free and rebooted. Same results.

Phonetray Free still works with my regular phone line.

I have tested the Magic Jack with a regular caller ID box. It works fine.

Right now I'm stuck. I was hoping to switch to Magic Jack and monitor my calls with Phonetray Free. I'd be happy to just get the numbers to show up again.

Any suggestions? Is there anything I haven't tried yet?

If you really need true CNAM lookups try the GVJackApp for magicJack. In the troubleshooting window you will also find a decent Caller ID testing facility included.

The GVJackApp includes a paid option to do real CNAM lookups via the national LIDB database if the name is not in your Gmail contacts list.
