This is a guide to help those who had magicjack surreptitiously update itself one day and wish to get the old interface back. This is especially useful if you use a netbook with low resolution as the machine you connect your MJ to as their newer inerface is very wasteful, space-wise which cuts part of it off the screen. Also it seems just incredibly stupid to triple-space and waste so much space not to mention I think it's super ugly.

What you need to do:

The offending addresses appear to be update.magicjack.com and aid.magicjack.com, but the software seems to use the IP addresses they resolve to as blocking them in the hosts file doesn't seem to work. Block incoming connections from: 216.234.76.130 and 216.234.76.150 in your firewall or router.
If you're using DDWRT, add this to your command line:

iptables -I FORWARD -d 216.234.76.130 -j DROP
iptables -I FORWARD -d 216.234.76.150 -j DROP

Next, change the desktop shortcut target to:

"%appdata%\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" (instead of magicJackLoader.exe)

Start the program, then plug in the magicjack. You should be good to go!

If you need to wipe and install it from scratch because it updated, you may need to disable the block until it finally installs and says "updating", then quickly block again before the new version downloads. It will say "can't connect", close the program, then open magicjack.exe (not magicjackloader).
