Two conditions,
1st - must use ATA, 2nd - need local phone number
Then what is the second best VOIP co after MJ in your opinion? If we can not solve this ATA problem, MJ will not be the best in my list.
I have voipbuster + ipkall + dukadial, so I have incoming & outgoing call for 100% free. All I need local phone number for my family members.
Thanks for your opinions. |

magicjackpak you could forwarded your magicJack number to your IPKall number. This works well for me. My set is IPKall to Callcentric to a Linksys RTP300 ATA. I also tried forwarding my magicJack number with Sipgate One account that provides a free USA number. Using this setup I did experience sound drops for several seconds so I switched back to my IPKall Callcentric setup. I should be noted the Sipgate One free works excellent by itself or with Google Voice. If you can find a combination that works for you by forwarding your local magicJack number I doubt you will find a service for less than $20.00 dollars a year other than Google Voice which is free. Unfortunately Google Voice is not currently issuing new accounts at this time.
Good Luck,

I'm too lazy to type it over again, so here's a cut and paste from my previous post.......
not entirely giving up on the combined brain power here to be able to unravel the ATA mystery.
but in the meantime, I just bought my first $25 credit from voip.ms .0105/minute to US, as low as .0049 to Canada. Billed in 6 second increments, which is way better than I've seen anywhere else and should turn 1000 minutes into like 400 with the larger number of short calls I make. Plus, you can register it as many places as you like, ie pbxes, to dial out with any caller id you like from any location or mobile (Yep, you can set your CID to anything you like, no questions asked-and have diff caller ids for diff places registered).
I'm using Sipgate inbound(GV forwarding to) and Voip.ms out. Should be like a 5 dollar phone bill with free inbound from Sipgate. The sound has been really great too.
Still, I miss the MJ. Felt like I was in a secret club. |

hmmm, I will give it a try. (I do not make a lot of calls and my laptop almost on all the time. I just do not want to waste my newly bought PAP2-NA ) |

It is not good as fixing ATA problem, but it is a great solution for incoming call. For the outgoing call, I can use MJ USB. Why didn't I think of it (call forwarding option).
Thank for the other suggestions too. I guess I need to learn VOIP more. There is always better way, if we help each other.
Thanks again |

I have used www.voicestick.com with my Grandstream HT-496 ATA. They have a next to nothing plan: www.voicestick.com/pages/next2nothing
that is fairly reasonable. You can get your own number for about $3 a month. I was using them for international calling until they had a rate hike for the country I was calling.
Good luck on your quest. |

I am currently using Sipgate with my ATA, so far i am happy with the service. Has much more features than MJ had and is only 1.9 cents a min, pretty cheap! Still gonna miss my mj though. |

We're all going to have a google voice number in a year, most likely. This is about on par with what you'll get with them. |

Voicestick charges for incoming calls and for outgoing calls in addition to the $2.99 monthly charge. They also have a history of changing terms of their contract before allowing the old contract to run out. |

Now using...
https://www.callcentric.com
Cheap DID, good international pricing.
https://www.callwithus.com
Super rates to some international areas, caribbean.
MJ was getting some good $$$ from my international calls, not now. |

Hey, this sounds promising. And 1/2 cent per minute in Canada. I've checked out their website. I'm confused as they mention both a $1.99/month fee (for a number?) and also "no monthly fees". Can someone clarify? |

voip.ms did not have a number for my area and neither did sipgate (317), so I went with future-nine, with the bare essentials plan. For $7 month you get a free local number, 250min outgoing, up to 3000 incoming, voicemail, cid, etc... There is also a feature that allows you to use those 3000 incoming minutes, as outgoing if you need to, with a call back feature. Definably would come in handy if my 250 outgoing was running low. I bought $15 in credit which will last me 2-months. By then, maybe this MagicJack problem will be over with. |

I had a chat with customer service (online chat) and for my purposes for outgoing calls only, I do not need to subscribe for a DID number. So my initial $25 USD payment will never expire and there are no monthly fees. They have two levels of service, value and premium. At the value rate, it's one half cent USD per minute, 6 second increments.
The DID number is only if you want a number for people to call you. My case, they'll call my cell or landline.
Thanks Whizzard for the recommendation. |

Besides MJ, I use Callcentric and GoogleVoice with Gizmo.
Callcentric is reasonable, the calls are clear,
they have loads of featues.
(No I dont work for them, just like their service!)
In my business being able to be contacted is my lifeblood,
so I dont rely on just one service, I always have a backup
for planned outages and unplanned outages. |

I have signed up with voip.ms, as well. The value plan is still clearer than MJ, and I can use my reliable PAP2 again . I just got tired of having to restart MJ or the PC to get the phone working again. That's something I never had to do with my PAP2. |
