How long have you had your magicJack? I am interesting to see if we are able to get a ballpark figure for the average life span of the magicJack USB dongle. I read posts that some users believe that they designed to after a year, which forces you to reinvest again the magicJack hardware. I would like to disprove this theory if possible by obtaining some statistics on the dongles life span.

Had it for a year and i bet, it will last for another 5 years, as long you let it stay on one place. Laughing

mine is a little over one year old, but it has stayed on my TC since the start. My sister has lost hers twice and twice she had to purchase a new one to keep her number. I wish MJ would sell you a replacement for less than $40 if you lose/damage yours.

Our mJ is 6 mths and two weeks. However, once it was properly setup off of the Powered Hub, which was about one months time; the hardward has not been touched.

Can you elaborate? Do you mean incoming calls do not ring through? Or, some thing else.

The mj doesn't load, unrecognized usb device, plug mj into a usb, the upgrade doesn't work. In the last few weeks it always started on the weekends, that it would reboot itself every few min. all day. If I rebooted the computer, I lost the mj, eventually having to reformat, now it just doesn't load ar all. Tech can't figure it out, have tried it all several times.

Wow... that's kinda weird, that it would only act up on the weekends. I couldn't begin to propose a reason, other than perhaps a ghost in the machine. Do you think you'll replace the dongle?

I am about to be a new MJ user and would like to kinda "clone" a MJ.

By cloning the MJ you never have to touch the hardware again.

I need people to help me out in this though.

See my posts for more, for exmaple:

Had my MJ for little over 1 1/2 years, but since I use MJMD5 with an ATA, the dongle is in a drawer, and not being used.

Well this seems to be an isolated incident Smile

From what I hear, MJ has done every attempt to stop ATA usage to the extend of banning some accounts entirely?

Or did I hear it wrong?

I don't need your (or anyone's) personal information to clone the MJ.

I just need to dump some entries from the registry and make an ISO of the MJ device.

That's all the info I need. After that, it's just testing if the cloning worked.

I had hoped people would be interested.

We are up to four Magic Jacks which tend to last two years apiece. Our first Magic+ has just gone bad. We have enjoyed MJ and have used in in Caribbean and Europe. Even if only lasting two years apiece with replacement still much cheaper and easier to use.
