would like to kinda "clone" a MJ just like you do!

Post by jongasse »

Hi,

I am about to be a new MJ user and would like to kinda "clone" a MJ just like you do!

I see a number of reasons whay one might want to clone a MJ:

1. MJ does not let you port your number EVEN to a different MJ.

I like to hang out a lot and would use a small netbook with wifi with my MJ.

I know I am going to someday drop the MJ and break it.

Yet, it does not look like I can "just buy" the MJ device without getting myself a completely new number, etc

The MJ hardware and software are tightly coupled!

2. It's a hassle clearing electronic stuff acorss international airports - especially when they had transparent windows through which you can see the citcuit board and stuff.
They let you go eventually, but not without hassle. (If someone has gaced this with a MJ or any other electronic device, please share your story also)

3. The MJ hardware by itself is not very sturdy. My friend who uses one had to buy a new MJ after his kid plugged the thing out and dropped it on the floor (this change his number and his 5 year prepaid plan is now worthless!)

However, I cannot do this alone - I need help and support from you guys. No money stuff. Just time and trust.

For example, the MJ software can ACTUALLY function WITHOUT the MJ hardware! Trust me.

However, before the MJ software starts up, it checks if the MJ hardware is plugged in. It also (might) try and get some data from the MJ hardware.

So, to clone a MJ - I need to find out WHAT information is exchanged between MJ hardware and the computer.

This means, ANYONE who wants to clone his MJ and trusts me need to run a software like this:

http://www.aggsoft.com/usb-port-monitor ... window.gif

I did not write this software - it's just a USB Port monitor that records (WHAT information is exchanged between MJ hardware and the computer)

The data has to be sent to me (and anyone who wants to help out and clone the MJ - people are free to join!)

Please make sure you understand a few things though :

1. You must have some time at hand everyday to help out.

Our cloning effort might or might not work for all. MJ might also change their hardware and software if we become too sucessful and everyone starts cloning their MJ (but we can try again then!)

2. This might even not work out at all or completely in the end.

3. Nobody, whoever is interested, should ask for ANY money/compensation for carrying out this cloning project, and that includes me and you.

How does this initiative like?

I will also be writing some software that will help you get the following features with your cloned (and original) MJ:

1. Type in a name instead of a number, and MJ dials out the correct number
2. Number Blocking - incoming or outgoing
3. Better/different ring sound than the same old ringtone
4. Do Not Disturb facility, no popus on incoming call or ads etc

These have a much lower priority than first getting the MJ cloned though.

You're a little bit late to the party. This forum contains much info about how to use MJ functionality without needing to plug in the hardware dongle, how to extract and use the sip credentials on other telephony platforms and VDOT has crafted a very capable program to implement your software ideas.

Try for something more creative like implementing a Vulcan mind-meld with the estimable Mr Dan Borislow to figure out the future direction of this endeavor.

Good Luck

Oops. I did find info that had to do with a lot of copying files and folders, but it looks as if you still need the MJ hardware while atleast starting up MJ after and during an update?

Or do you not need the MJ hardware to be present at all?

Could anyone clarify if we have found a situation where we do not need to plug in the hardware MJ at all in order to use the software?

SuccessFul @ Cloning MagicJack Plus To Standard Magic Jack

Post by Simbalage22 »

Well year 2011 I just got my MJ plus and clone it to my original. Its quite easy if you know command line and a bit of dos. I could do a video. The only drawback is it causes the calls to go to voicemail. On my test I could make outgoing calls on both, however the last one to register takes the calls and when you unplug it it goes streight to voicemail unless you unplug the 1st one and plug it in. Good and useful incase you break your magicJack you simply have another as a working read to go backup. Or if your main use is outgoing calls. But unlike SIP which those days were indeed fun I am sure If there is not a tight lid on this might get blocked. I noticed that although MJ tech support sucks their engeneers arent stupid. But We should have the option to simply transfer our service to as many devices or a new device without adding another subscription, If they added something to check to make sure 1 was only used at a time would still be fine. I have cloned cellphones in that past and I must say this was fun.

On a side note with both subscriptions it is cool that you can transfer your number to be on both devices or even swap the numbers providing you have active subscription on both devices and they are both up to date.. Both mine are.. But I successful verified that the number did change as well as everything when I completed the clone :)

No need to clone your new magicjack

Post by ThaWiz »

After being told that I must register my new MJ with a new MJ# and then have to pay $10 to port my existing MJ phone# to my new MJPLUS and then pay another $10 to get activate my old MJ with another new number I closed the chat and got another rep that explained it quite well.

Walt: once the new device is activated with the old number what about using the old device?
Gabriela: You can still use your regular/old magicJack when using the new magicJack PLUS.
Gabriela: --- Even if both your magicJack PLUS and your current (regular) magicJack have the same 10-digit phone number, they will not affect/interfere with each other's function. Because each magicJack unit is independent from one another.
Walt: Outstanding! I like you!

. . . it works. Two MJ's using the same phone #!
