FYI, software/driver on MJ USB dongle is subjected to corruption due to malware/virus/user's errors. It is best to backup the MJ software and be able to restore to the latest working condition if your MJ suddenly stops working...

You can do this by simply copy the content from the 2 MJ drives to separated/safe locations such as another USB stick, cd, etc...

From observing the forum, I saw many posts claiming their MJs stopped working after few months for no apparent reasons. Have you checked your computers and MJ drives for virus/spyware/malware infections? If they were corrupted/infected, how would you restore it? Then back-it-up!

I thought, if you just delete those files, then start the MJ softphone, it will go through the registration process (to confirm your identity) and reload those files. I've done it once. I thought that's what happened.

Also, since those drives are writable, I always use the "Safely Remove Hardware" thing in the taskbar. If unplugging flash drives can eventually cause corruption, then the MJ device should be equally susceptible.

I think a lot of people don't realize the MJ USB device is writable. MJ could ameliorate this by

1) Include an "Exit" option in the softphone GUI (which would dismount the USB device).

2) When it detects the USB has been unplugged, instead of silently exiting, display a warning about the importance of gracefully exiting.

FWIW, the guys over at MJ tech chat told me a while ago that it's not necessary to do the 'Safely Remove Hardware' thing before pulling out the mj dongle.

Don't know why though.

I wouldn't trust MJ support. They tell people to do improper things all the time. Like opening unnecessary ports on your router. Or, changing global background process priority.

If you run procman with a filter to include only the process magicjack.exe, you'll see the following activity every 5-6 seconds. It seems to create and open a file (or directory).

If someone unplugged the drive (without first "safely removing") at the exact moment this operation is occurring, I think it would be a problem.
