I read a review about the Linksys/Cisco PAP2T being able to dial a direct IP address to the ATA and ring the phone without even needing VoIP phone service ..
I wouldn't be surprised if this is how the new device NetTalk TK6000 may work too, there's a setting in the ATA allowing SIP dialing.
My question is, would the form be something like this ...?
<callees NAME>@<callees IP:5060
how to enter it into the ATA, or phone keypad
and how to setup the ATA's dial plan to accept it
here's a quote from the review ...
Calls can be made to another VoIP device without either device even having a VoIP provider, both on your LAN and through the internet...absolutely free. (I foresee future geeks asking girls out like "Call me sometime! My number is [email protected]:5060!") You could even configure this to support station-to-station calling for a small office or an IP-based intercom over any distance.
