Single number blocked outgoing/now blocked incoming too?!
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else...
I have a friend on the other end of the country that I talk with all the time. He bought a magicJack a while back, primarily so that he could call me. Since I was having financial difficulty at the time I dropped my long distance and just let him call here instead of me calling there.
We had no problem for over a year, then suddenly he couldn't call me. He gets 3 long beeps and then dead air when he tries. He can call ANY other number he's tried, including numbers in my same area code/exchange. By this time I had a 3rd party long-distance company that provided me an 800 number that rang through to my line... he could even call THAT with no problem, which routed to this phone.
He tried talking to support "we're working on it" or something was all he got after trying numerous tries to get any kind of response from them. My support techs tested the lines and said it had to be on his end.
After a month of paying my long distance bill, which got quite large, I gave in and went back to an unlimited long distance plan here through my local carrier. All was fine for a few weeks, until tonight.
Tonight when I try to call him I get silence for a long time, then a recording finally comes on "your call did not go through, please try your call again 029P". On his end it RINGS, and when he picks up he gets dead air (we're chatting online while I'm trying to call).
I haven't tried calling him from another number tonight yet (it's too late to call anyone that could call him), and I have placed a trouble ticket with my long distance, but I suspect I'll get the same answer I got last time.
It's just the connection between our two lines. He can still call anyone but me, I appear to be able to call anyone but him. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this particular kind of problem?

Have you tried changing to another USB port, or making sure your USB isn't being "put to sleep" by Windows? Don't use the little USB extension that came with the MJ, as it can give you all sorts of problems over time.
Also, can your and your friend call other numbers within the same area code that's giving you problems? Many threads about area code problems. All I can think of right now without recommending chatting with MJ support (good luck with that one).

I have one number that does not work outgoing only.
Had a friend with magicJack try to call it and they got same results. Get three beeps and then call dropped. Not busy signal.
Filed a Ticket with customer support (higher level) and it was submitted to engineers with "high priority" and was "guaranteed" satisfaction.
No reply since 18 Aug 10.

That sounds like the same thing we're dealing with gadfly...
I am able to call to him again from this end, I never got a call back from my phone company but they usually respond immediately, so I'm thinking they might have been able to fix that part from their end. He still can't call me though, gets the 3 beeps.
Did you call that number a lot gadfly?

Here is a list of area codes and exchanges, someone put together in another forum, which shows info on what can not be called, as of right now, with the MJ..
There are 4 pages of posts but here is the last page with the complete list, as of yesterday.

It is SHOCKING how many #'s can no longer be called with the MJ.

Sigh.
My phone company apparently did something to fix the problem the other day, and I was able to call him again for a few days.
Now tonight every time I call I get a busy signal. It's like MJ has a target on my back. Everytime we find away around the insanity they throw something else in the way.
He can call his MJ from another line, with no problem, so we know it's not just his MJ device, it's specifically with my number. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Do you have a Google Voice (GV) number? If not, you should get one and place all your long distance calls via your GV number. It's free, no reason to be paying for long distance these days! The GV route is what most people are using to get around the MJ area code issues.tmbmt wrote:Sigh.

BTW, they are other inexpensive VOIP solutions out there which would require that you purchase a VOIP ATA such as the PAP2T-NA.
