Turned off all cookies... rebooted... still nothing, same error. Still thanks as i did try that before and at this point today i am LITERALLY buying a netbook just to serve the MJ. Crunched the numbers and it still makes sense versus going landline.

I've tried everything I can think of, as well as everything that Tech support told me to. Nothing works. Unfortunately for me, I bought this about 50 days ago, so I am past my 30 day money back guarantee. I tried emailing the address listed previously, but did not get a reply.

I was a fool to believe an ad on TV. I should have known better. I guess I am out $40.

I FOUND A FIX!!!!!!!

i also tested it, rebooted a few times, reformatted the drive etc to BE SURE my fix works on what was once my always working computer before the MJ 'upgrade' screwed things up.

Ok, here is the deal.

You need ANOTHER computer. i have VISTA on my old/main machine yet used an XP machine to make this work. Do not think it matters what OS, as long as you have MS OS on both.

i went out and bought a $300 Acer One. After the usual stuff to get the new Acer machine going, with my Ethernet plugged in and Internet working on the new Acer i plugged in the MJ USB.

Usual MJ install screen appears and then eventually a screen popped up asking for MJ account username and password. Did it and then made a call to be sure she worked.

Ok, then you need to COPY the mj file on the new computer (Acer). MAKE SURE you have TOOLS >> FOLDER OPTIONS >> VIEW and select SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS

In Vista the file is at
C: >>> USERS >> **YOUR_NAME_HERE** >>> APPDATA>>> ROAMING

The file you want to copy is, of course, MJUSBSP

Copy that file to a thumbdrive or whatever

Then you basically go to your old computer and DELETE the MJUSBSP file on YOUR OLD COMPUTER that does not work with MJ.

Then copy and paste the new MJUSBSP file that is in the thumbdrive from the new working computer to your old computer.

Then plug in the MJ to your old computer and ta-da!

NOTE: MJ does weird things at first, perhaps, to your browser, so you might want to reboot your old machine that you just copied the file to. Seems the first try without reboot MS IE8 was not a happy camper so rebooted.

Then simply reboot as normal and VEEEOLA, MJ now works (at least it now works for me) on the old machine.

Well, now i need to totally wipe out the new Acer machine and return it. Meanwhile, have saved a copy of the new file off the Acer computer JUST IN CASE something goes awry to save me from having to buy a new Acer computer and doing this all over again.

Hope this helps someone. Sheesh, what a PIA yet glad to have FINALLY found a solution. Hope this works for others.

PS: It has NOTHING to do with cookies or setting in my old machine or whatever. Seems something in the MJ folder needs some type of verification/key code change to then work or same situation with the actual MJ hardware. It is the way the new MJ 'upgrade' must hiccup or ??? during said 'upgrade' that goes awry.

Make sure to allow all cookies under Privacy tab under Internet options.. And under Privacy tab, click the advanced button and in there, make sure that Override Cookie handling is not checked..

Hope this one helps out.. xD

To compare against magicJack, I ordered the new netTALK tk6000 (http://www.tk6000.com) phone a few days ago. I should have it in a few days. One thing I like about it, it plugs directly into the router vice running on a computer.

I intend to post a comparison, if it is worth anything. It might be an option for you guys having issues with magicJack.

Ok, after chatting and the usual tries they did get it fiexed (what a changem usually it is just talk, no action). Ok, once you get past the MJ chat bots...

Make sure you have unchecked the overrride automatic cookie (which i already did).

i think the REAL fix that worked for me was:

MJ backed it up by refreshing your magicjack settings here in our end (mj's), to set it's service back.

MJ Support told me they were refreshing my connection to their server on their end, told me reboot cable modem and router then try upgrade again.

I did that and rebooted computer, when it came back online MJ tells me it's upgrading, then tells me Warning make sure MJ is plugged in USB. It is plugged in USB so I don't know what's going on, but I'm about ready to give up on them and go back to standard landline if I can't get this worked out today.

i .
Tried this, got MJ to work on my Win XP laptop fine (probably only a Vista upgrade) so when I copied the folder from the laptop to the desktop, it still fails to startup.

To Everyone complaining about "Magicjack" not working for them. At first it was a rather frustrating experience, and then I had a GREAT experience with them.

First, when i called the "Sales Office" they said they could not help me in any way, and after getting upset with them, they finally gave me the phone number (281-404-1554) for "Technical Support". I didn't get any satisfaction from them, and then i tried the "Live Chat" support and that wouldn't work for me either. I tried again with the "Live Chat" a couple days later, and was able to get right in, no problem at all.

As i went from one tech to another and then a heightened tech support person I asked "Are you going to help me, or do i have to call my local News station for assistance"? And THEN they were very happy to assist me and eventually got the problem solved.

I was getting a LARGE box over the "Magicjack" call window, which was giving me the error "No Serial Number Passed". So after a few questions from the tech support they asked me to do a "Search" for the file "mjusbsp" and delete it. And then disconnect the "Magicjack" from the computer and wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.

Then she asked me to find the two drives "Magicjack" were in and find "Format" which was found on (M:) drive. Then she asked me to do a "Quick Format" and then go into "Internet Options" and add "reg.talk4free.com" as well as "www.magicjack.com" and to "Enable ALL cookies and to uncheck the box under "Enable Protected Mode (requires restarting Internet Explorer). At this point it started working normally and then she asked me to do the "Upgrade" which i did and everything has been working perfectly ever since!

One thing I've learned is "Sometimes the Sqeakiest Wheel gets the oil" and in some cases "Patience is a Virtue". When someone is attacked with a complaint we sometimes go on the defensive and that's not always a good way to get things done. And sometimes choosing the right things to say, can be an advantage.
Hope this helps

You said she asked you to do the upgrade? Is there a way to stop it from occurring, because that's what's throwing our MJ in the crapper I believe. When it tries to do the upgrade it tells me that MJ needs to be plugged into USB which it is.

It was working fine prior to this "upgrade" and the livechat help was of no use, I followed their instructions and it didn't help anything even with their whole "we're refreshing your connection to the server over here". Pfft.

Sorrry, just a bit frustrated at this.

a fix

Post by duRden62 »

AS I HAVE POSTED BEFORE
1 REMOVE MJ FROM THE USB PORT.
2 POWERDOWN THE COMPUTER IE TURN POWERSURPLE OFF
3 LET SET FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS
4 TURN POWERSURPLE BACK ON
5 BOOT COMPUTER
6 AFTER THE OS COMPLETES ALL THE STARTUP APPS
PLUG THE MJ INTO A REAR USB PORT
AFTER 30-60 YOUR MJ SHOULD START THE UPGRADE OR JUST START UP
