We have had MJ for about two years now and love how much it saves us. We recently upgraded our computer and installed MJ without problems. We do have to use the provided extension cord to make it fit, but again no problems.
That is.... until a few minutes after we start it up. When I first plug it in (to install) the phone rings for incoming calls and everything works great. Even WITH the extension cord. But then after a few minutes (maybe after the screen saver pops up) the phone DOES NOT RING - it goes straight to VM!
It's not:
*my phone
*the extension cord
*the priority (MJ is already set as high)
What else can I do? This is so frustrating!!!

Re: New Computer - MJ not working
I'm not arguing with your conclusions, okay maybe a "little", but how can you eliminate the extension cord as the problem, unless you have replicated the problem without it? Other posters have eliminated some very odd issues by not using the cord, which I know isn't an option for you.wantstousemj wrote:We have had MJ for about two years now and love how much it saves us. That said, it does sound more like the computer is "shutting down" when the screen saver kicks in as far as MJ is concerned. If you are using Windows7 on your new machine, there are numerous posts you can find in here via a search on changes you might need to make to the Windows7 power settings to keep MJ running.

Nevermind... it's still not ringing. Did once, then tried again a couple minutes later (without even letting the computer screen saver come on) and again it's straight to voicemail.
nailgunner... I'm sure there are topics that cover the changes, but even with a search there are too many threads to read through. More specific help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Okay. Maybe this ONCE. Nothing like interrupting my nap.wantstousemj wrote: nailgunner... I'm sure there are topics that cover the changes, but even with a search there are too many threads to read through. More specific help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I click the "search for all terms" button near the top, and the "posts" button on the left.
When doing that with "power setting" as my search, I found this:
http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... t9563.html
I didn't read through much of it, but I'm betting you will find what you need in there. If I remember right, I changed my power settings from whatever it was to the "high performance" plan, and set it to never go to sleep and to turn monitor off after 10 minutes. I think I also also changed my USB and sleep settings in the advanced settings. You get to it all by clicking on "power options" in the control panel. I think it's all covered in the postings, if not another search under power settings should get you what you need. Good luck.
But if it quit on you that quickly, I'm not sure this will fix it.
Edit: You may not want to read through those postings. I just looked closer and that was mostly on an issue with the screen saver not working at all with MJ after an update. But if it's not the screensaver causing the problem, you might want to check how soon you have your computer set to sleep in the power settings. It can be set as low as 1 minute, and that might be the issue...or not.
Here's what I use on my old laptop http://dottech.org/freeware-reviews/6801/ it's called caffeine. It keeps your computer active by simulating a keystroke every 59 seconds. Only downside is your monitor and screen save will not function when this is on. So I use this software to turn off my monitor http://www.rtsoftwares.com/TurnOffMonit ... onitor.htm . It has a free trial but costs $5 after a few days. I use this because my old laptop I run MJ on needs to stay active for the phone to ring. If not after awhile the phone will not ring and my calls will go to voicemail. Being your using a newer machine I would check out the power setting like Nailgunner suggested. I would also check and see if the same thing happens with your computer connected directly to your modem to make sure it's not a router problem.
