I loaned out a mJ to a friend for him to test. I had recently upgraded to the 5 year plan. Well, in the mean time, my friend went nuts, and is no longer my friend. Can I buy a new mJ and get my number and service transferred over to it? Has anyone successfully done this?

Thanks.

I think YES if you contact MJ support prior to plugging in your new one. HOWEVER I have no idea what will happen if your "friend" tries to use his/yours at the same time. If I were you I would report mine as stolen ( that is an option on your (MYMAGICJACK). I would still contact MJ support first and see what they say. Say it was stolen and you bought a new one and want to use the same #. See what happens.

I'm not trying to port my number from another service. Just between mJs, as in my original post.

From our friends at Chat Technical Support:

Quote:
Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Jewel'

Jewel: Hello, how may I help you?

Guy: Hello. My magicJack device was stolen. I had the 5 year plan on it. If I purchase a new device, can my old number and service date be transferred to the new device?

Jewel: Let me assist you with your concern Guy.

Jewel: Yes that is possible Guy.

Jewel: Not a problem.

Guy: How would I do it?

Guy: Would I get an additional year added that came with the new device?

Jewel: May I know your old magicJack number please?

Guy: xxx-xxx-xxxx

Jewel: Thank you

Jewel: According here in my end that for this (xxx) xxx-xxxx service will expire on xx/xx/2014.

Guy: That is correct. But if I purchase a new magicJack device, it comes with a year of service. Will that be added on at the end of my current service, so that it will expire on xx/xx/2015?

Jewel: So the most that you can do, if you do have the new device, please come back here on chats, so that we can be able to port your remaining years into your new device, and please do not register it first okay.

Jewel: Yes correct.

Jewel: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

Guy: If eventually the old device is returned to me, will there be any way to activate a new line of service on it?

Jewel: Yes it is possible Guy.

Jewel: Since it is still in service.

Jewel: Just plug it in.

Jewel: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

Guy: But, I mean, if we transfer the service to my new device, it will deactivate the old device, correct?

Jewel: Correct.

Jewel: It will of course deactivated your old device.
Guy: So, later on, assuming the old device is deactivated, is there any way to turn it back on by purchasing a new year of service, and getting a new phone number?

Jewel: Well, if that would be the case Guy, since you want to transfer the 5 year plan on your new device, it well fully be deactivated the entire service on your old magicJack.

Guy: Is there any way to ever reactivate it?

Jewel: Yes, I am speaking about your 5 year plan Guy, since your situation is that, you have lost the old device.

Jewel: You can reactivate it if and only if you will find it again.

Jewel: Make sure that you have a different numbers with your 2 magicJack device, okay. If you will be able to find it.

Guy: Okay. Thanks.

Jewel: You are most welcome.

Jewel: Have a nice evening to you and your family circle

Looks like you had the right idea, bitstopjoe. I just wonder if actually making it happen will be easy or not. And I'm still not clear if I can reactivate the device after it's been deactivated.

I think I'm going to go play with my family circle now...

Yeah that was a clear as mud. It would help if tech support of ANY company SPOKE & UNDERSTOOD DAMN ENGLISH!.
I would at least do what she said and get the new one, contact them and have the 5 yr transfered to your new device as this will disable the one your "friend" has. When you do that make sure you again mention the extra yr for the new one to be added to your 5 yrs left from the "stolen" one.
I would worry about trying to re activate the old one if and when the time comes.
Let me know how you make out as I am curious.

You are now chatting with 'Steph'

Your Issue ID for this chat is ALPHANUMERIC#

Steph: Hello, how may I help you?
Steph: Hi Greg
Greg: Hi Steph.
Greg: I'd like to transfer the balance on one MJ to another before reporting it stolen.
Steph: Let me assist you
Greg: Can you do that?
Steph: May I have your old magicjack phone number please?
Greg: I'd like to transfer the license on MJ#1 to MJ#2 before reporting MJ#1 as lost/stolen/missing.
Steph: Okay.
Steph: One moment please...

Steph: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.

Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

You are now chatting with 'Jake'

Your Issue ID for this chat is ALPHANUMERIC#

Jake: Welcome to the higher level of support. I'm Jake and I will be personally assisting you on your concern today.
Jake: Please hold for few moments while I review your prior chats with the recent operator and your issue. Thanks...
Greg: OK
Jake: Thank you for waiting
Greg: OK
Jake: Just to clarify, you want to transfer your years of service from your stolen device to your other device, right?
Greg: Is it possible to transfer the license on MJ#1 to MJ#2 thereby cancelling MJ#1?
Jake: Did you signed up for another years of service on your stolen magicjack? or is it just the years that comes with the device?
Greg: Original service on MJ#1 which was activated NOVEMBER 2009
Jake: I see, I am very sorry but we cannot transfer that one, we cannot transfer the number of years that comes with the device
Greg: So if I report MJ#1 as LOST OR STOLEN the remaining service is also LOST?
Jake: Unfortunately Yes
Jake: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
Greg: ...if I find the device after reporting MJ#1 as LOST OR STOLEN, is that service then recoverable?
Jake: Yes, you can use the service then
Greg: Okay...Thank You, Jake. Just want to be clear before acting.

Greg: Will the end of service to MJ#1 will remain NOVEMBER 2010?
Jake: Yes, it wil be as it is
Greg: Okay.
Greg: Thanks, Jake.
Greg: Do have a good day!
Jake: You are most welcome
Jake: Please take a second to answer a one question survey about the service I provided. Please click the "close" button on the top right of this screen and the survey will appear. Thanks again!
Greg: Will do!
