It seems that I can't get magic jack to start...it gets stuck on the splashscreen and never moves onto opening the actual Dial Pad.
The only way I can get it to work is to run the installer. Now I've had the shortcut to startup for awhile now. Accept the quality isn't any good and Im guessing its because I can't update it since it must do a fresh install to work.
I've tried to do the update after it launches the Dial pad from a fresh install, Accept I go to launch it from the Desktop and it does that Lovely Freeze of sorts on the splash screen.
any help would be much appreciated...Thanks.
Magic Jack Won't Start

yeah I've tried alot and they even told me they won't exchange it. So you guys are my last hope. Anything I can do to fix this. If it helps in task manager it displays mjsetup and spash exe's.
EDIT if it helps I can't make it start without going to application data and doing the install Under the hidden folder *update* then after the install it runs but not smoothly.

Re: Magicjack won't start
Hello all you frustrated ones!
I am new to this forum. After reading a few of the most recent posts I decided to share my trials and tribulations in hopes that others could avoid the headaches I experienced when I could not get my Magicjack to load properly.
I too had similar issues when trying to setup my Magicjack to run on an older Windows XP workstation. On the first go round, MJ installed eventually and worked fine for about a couple of days. Then after rebooting my workstation MJ would not load at all. The MJ splash screen would stay on "One minute of patience…" and my system thus crawled to a trickle. System resources maxed out and yet essentially nothing was happening. I did as much MJ research online as I could because of this issue. Unfortunately, I came across this forum after I had already tried everything else in the book. My frustration maxed out after I had updated my systems motherboard bios, installed a new USB 2.0 PCI card, removed and reinstalled all USB drivers, Video Drivers, added Microsoft's most current system updates and even went so far as to re-map my system's drives (other than my main C drive). I followed the advice on MJ's FAQ and all to no avail. Honestly, I was ready to send MJ to the trash heap in little parts and pieces. Finally I ran across a tidbit of info that I wish I had known prior to wasting my time with all these other so called "fix it's".
On to the important stuff!
First things first, if you have been able to load and register your MJ, you will need to wait for and respond to a confirmation email from MJ that your registration was successful. Mine was filtered out by my spam and junk email filter.
Next, to rule out MJ as being defective, try installing on another desktop computer or even newer laptop (possibly a friends or even your neighbor). To uninstall it, you will need to search MJ FAQ's for "Uninstall" which will allow you to download a program "mjRemover.exe" to remove it.
Make sure the MJ is connected to a USB2.0 jack on the back of your computer. In my case, I replaced my USB PCI card (I discovered it indeed had some issues) and also purchased a USB 2.0 powered hub. At this point MJ still did not load (Please note that a USB powered hub was a great call and indeed necessary, especially for older PC's with less than up to date power supplies).
The real culprit in my case… As others have mentioned on this BB (thanks by the way!), there is a system conflict that occurs with MJ if you have previously installed Nero Essentials 7 and also some versions of the Roxio software. I found that after I uninstalled Nero 7 (in my case) that MJ loaded flawlessly and quickly every time it was connected. This was about a month ago and it has work perfectly since. I since have reinstalled Nero 7 essentials (after downloading the latest patches and updates from www.nero.com) and I can now burn DVD's again.
One other thing I did notice that is worth mentioning. If you are using a Cable broadband service, the MJ can occasionally sound horrible (dropped or choppy voices, background noise, and the dreaded ECHO). IMO, this is primarily due to the shared bandwidth in your area being heavily utilized (noon hour and early evenings when everyone gets off work are heavy internet usage times).
Summing this all up, I was so frustrated with the MJ experience at first taste. And it turned out my frustration was pointed in the wrong direction! The Magicjack DOES work as advertised! No more monthly phone bills with my local phone company!
It would also be very helpful if MJ would update their Knowledgebase/FAQ's (let alone their out of date website) to point others to these simple fixes.
I hope that this information can help others out there as it helped me. Good luck to you all!

Re: Magicjack won't start
Hello "bnicolet" and welcome to the forum!
I am not clear as to the exact details you are looking for, but I am happy to give it a try. I too use XP SP3. The original post here is from fall of 2009. I just mention this as MJ has dramatically changed the dongle's software since then. I believe it was around March of 2010 they locked up the dongle drives and moved much of our info to their website. Keep this in mind as several of the tips provided on this site may not work now due to this change.
If I understand your question correctly you are asking how to have MJ boot automatically on system startup? It won't as far as I know. You will need to plug your MJ dongle into your USB port each time after your system has completely booted up. I don't know of any other way around this. From time to time, my system has shut down while I am not around due to power outages. I have restarted the system not realizing I left the dongle plugged in. Once the system was up, I did not have MJ service until I stopped the MJ process (Mjkill.exe), then safely eject/reconnected the MJ dongle.
I would highly recommend reading the thread below (specifically page 2, halfway down, a post by "bitstopjoe" on creating a new shortcut) on the topic of disconnecting your MJ as it will give you a great tip on using "Mjkill.exe" to stop the "magicJack.exe" process, prior to trying to safely remove your hardware. http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/how- ... t8612.html
Hope this helps. Was I even in the ballpark?
