|
|
I have AT&T Broadband internet with Ethernet cable set up. My AT&T unit runs my computer, and 2 TVs, one TV with DVR. I bought MagicJack and plugged it in, it worked fine, i registered it, and it gave me a phone number, but when i try to connect it, it gives the evil "ERROR 3". Anyone help?
All my computer firewalls are turned off, as well as my anti viruses. My AT&T box has a firewall, which i can access, but every method i try to disable it enough so where magicJack can work, fails.

From the manual for the 2700 which seems similar
Allowing Inbound and Outbound Traffic
The Inbound and Outbound Control pane displays some common protocol types. When one of the Inbound
protocol boxes is checked, the firewall allows the corresponding protocol to pass through from the Internet
to the network. If one of the Outbound protocol boxes is checked, the firewall allows the traffic from the
network to pass through the firewall to the Internet.
To block an Inbound or Outbound protocol:
Open a Web browser and access the 2Wire gateway user
interface by entering http://gateway.2wire.net.
 Click the Firewall tab.
Click the Advanced Settings link under the tab to open the
Edit Advanced Firewall Settings page.
1. In the Inbound and Outbound Control pane, deselect the
checkbox of the protocol you wish to block.
2. Click SAVE.
Check all the boxes and see what happens |

FYI...
I had an "Error 3"/non-functioning MagicJack all day yesterday in (815).
Today it's working fine again -- I haven't touched a thing. |

I just tried that, and still error 3. Thanks for trying though! Does anyone use 646 area code? (New York City). Maybe its just the area code i try to use.
Starting to think this was a waste of money! Bout to just spend the $40 more a month for phone service |

It sounds as if the 2Wire portal isn't allowing the jack to access its ports. Back when I had one, I could tell you how to fix it, but there's a minute setting in there somewhere that needs a tweak. You may ask 2Wire and see what they tell you. |

Most modern routers make port-forwarding unnecessary. Case in point: two magicJacks with different numbers on the same network can't both use port forwarding. |
