audio port problem -redux

Post by ctowzey »

Hi, has anyone kept up with the audio ports that MJ uses? It seems to have changed just recently. I was having luck with the UDP 10k-20k range before but now I have to open up completely to get audio again, so that is the proof they have moved the ports. Just looking for a narrow as possible range to include in my firewall (that's right -it's non standard, and filters both ways - I don't want to change that right now). And yes, I know about UDP port 5060/5070 -those don't carry the audio.

*please, not interested in suggestions about changing firewalls, routers, flashing different firmware, or other related hardware suggestions - I'm just looking for "actual" port information only - if nobody has that info - I'm okay with that.

Thanks

Thanks Mark. I looked down the list but didn't see that. Sounds like the info I needed. But for me, it's not a matter of degraded quality and drop outs - rather no audio at all.

It seems like MJ is changing things. After the proxy-change gimmick was published (see the wiki FAQ) some of the talk4free servers are no longer resolvable from IP address on nslookup.

Also, a few days ago all the proxy servers that your softphone could failover to were listed in the pmdump of the magicjack.exe process. I noticed today they aren't there (encrypted instead of plain text).

And, someone on another forum found his softphone connecting to servers like 216.234.79.14 for RTP/vms connections. It resolves to 216.234.79.14.miami.talk4free.com.

So, it seems like Dan is trying to obfuscate the server names to make it harder for customers to choose a proxy server to use.

Anyway, with all the changes that seem to be occurring, it must lead to some instability.

Correction. They're still in the pmdump. But, not identified by the string they used to be identified with. Now you have to search for "transport=udp".
